    Technology / Specs

TaylorMade takes the design of the ultra-popular Spider Tour putter and improves it in the Spider X putters. Discover what’s new and improved below.

    Updated Stability

Designers shrunk the head of the Spider X putters, taking out the so-called “jet engines" on the back of the putter. These ports held weight for higher MOI. Not wanting to lose any MOI, TaylorMade changed the material used to make the body of the Spider X putters.

The frame of the Spider X putter is made of 320 grams of steel, which is 30% heavier. Adding weight increases the forgiveness by reducing twisting at impact.

The sole is made of a 15 gram carbon composite material, balancing out the head’s weight for a smooth stroke.

    True Path Alignment

To help users line up putts better, TaylorMade designers added True Path Alignment to the crown of the Spider X putters. True Path consists of a solid white strip about the width of a golf ball and a long, black alignment line. There are also versions of the Spider X that only have the alignment line.

    Improvements to Pure Roll Insert

TaylorMade’s Pure Roll insert also gets improvements. The insert still has the 45-degree grooves that increases top spin on putts so they start and stay on their intended line. This insert is thicker than previous versions, giving the Spider X better sound and feel.

Spider X putters come in 2 colors, (copper and navy) and with either a single bend or slant hosel. The single bend hosel is best for a straight-back-straight-through putting stroke. Slant hosels are better for slight-arcing putting strokes.
